The Youth Climbing Team (YCT) is designed to help youth not only learn about climbing but also help develop self-confidence and personal goal setting. As a group, the team works together to keep each other safe as well as encourage each other. The YCT coaches are Miami students who are dedicated to teaching the sport of rock climbing and working with youth.

Our youngest group of climbers strive to develop the fundamentals of safe climbing. Introductory concepts such as knot tying, spotting, and climbing vocabulary are integrated into plenty of time on the wall experiencing climbing first hand! If your child is looking to explore climbing, this is the place.

After learning the fundamentals, young climbers can begin to discover more opportunities in climbing. At this point each climber is beginning to set their own goals. Our coaches then work with them to take the necessary steps to reach these goals. More advanced techniques are introduced as each climber’s ability increases. Returning climbers can help new climbers catch up, so don't worry if your 9–11 year old has never climbed with us before.

Our middle school aged climbers continue to solidify climbing fundamentals while combining all the skills learned up to this point. The adventure has only begun as we introduce new challenges and maneuvers. More advanced techniques are discussed and put into practice as each climber supports and observes each other in their development. Climbers will have the opportunity to become “Belay Qualified” and literally support one another in growing their climbing skills.
