Speaker/Affiliation: Thomas Lamkin and Sean Longbrake, Miami University
Title (Lamkin): Noncommutative discriminants and the automorphism problem (3:00-3:25)
Abstract (Lamkin): Computing automorphisms groups of algebras is a notoriously difficult problem for commutative and noncommutative algebras alike. In this talk, I will briefly discuss how to use a family of tools known as noncommutative discriminants to study the automorphism group of noncommutative algebras. I will then discuss the automorphism group of the 2x2 quantum matrix algebras at roots of unity, including what information can be determined using discriminants.
Title (Longbrake): Nested Dependent Random Choice (3:30-3:55)
Abstract (Longbrake): The celebrated dependent random choice lemma states that in a bipartite graph an average vertex (weighted by its degree) has the property that almost all small subsets in its neighborhood has a common neighborhood almost as large as in the random graph of the same edge-density. A recent variant of the dependent random choice lemma is the so-called "nested dependent random choice," which extends dependent random choice to a recursive structure. This allows us to obtain a generalization of a theorem by Conlon, Fox, and Sudakov showing that a bipartite graph with one vertex complete to the other part has Sidorenko’s property and a theorem of Grzesik, Janzer, and Nagy regarding the Turan bound for a subset of r-degenerate graphs.
