Support the Center

There are a number of ways you can financially support the Center and our mission. Below are various funds with a brief description as to how each fund supports the Center. All donations are made through the Miami University Advancement office.

Scripps Enrichment Fund

This fund enhances the professional development of gerontology students by supporting them to attend and give presentations at professional meetings and conferences. Originally established by faculty and staff who donate honoraria they receive for speeches and technical assistance, this fund also provides a small amount of support for costs associated with thesis and dissertation research.

The Leaders in Aging Research Fund

The Leaders in Aging Research fund is used to support the Scripps Gerontology Center with a focus on enhancing scholarly enrichment, such as through lectures and student/faculty enrichment programs. This fund was established by an endowment from the Whelpton family to Miami University.

W. Fred Cottrell Leadership Development Fund

Endowed by the Cottrell family, this fund honors the contributions of W. Fred "Doc" Cottrell to the Scripps Gerontology Center and the field of aging. To reinforce Doc's legacy of intellectual leadership and service to others, this fund supports innovative opportunities for students that are focused on leadership, career development, and aging at Miami University.

Opening Minds through Art

Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is a Scripps intergenerational art program for people with dementia. Students and community volunteers are paired with elders with dementia for a semester of art-making. In the process of creating beautiful art, friendships are formed and lives are changed. Donations will be used to purchase art supplies to support the program.

Scripps Gerontology Center- Alumni Fund

Established by Miami University's gerontology alumni, this fund promotes the professional development and future success of gerontology students by defraying the costs of thesis and dissertation research and supporting their participation in professional networks and activities.

Suzanne R. Kunkel Transformational Leadership in Aging Award

The award is dedicated to promoting and encouraging diversity among the next generation of emerging leaders in gerontology. The annual award will provide graduate students with funds to support their travel to attend a professional conference or educational workshop that will allow them to advance their skills and knowledge about leadership and innovation in the field of aging.
