Experiential education enhances academic learning and helps students achieve intellectual goals associated with a liberal education. The Arts Management & Arts Entrepreneurship (AMAE) Program at Miami University offers an exciting opportunity to gain professional, hands-on experiences at national and international arts organizations. The internship experience is designed to provide practical application of skills developed in the AMAE Program with meaningful opportunities for students to work one-on-one with profit and not-for-profit arts organizations. AMAE internship experiences will synthesize and build on the program’s overall learning outcomes.
Internships are required for AMAE majors. Internships are encouraged though not required for AMAE co-majors and minors. While AMAE encourages students to, and will help, secure paid internships, students can receive CCA340 credit for both paid and unpaid internships. For-credit internships require at least 37.5 hours of work for each credit hour earned. Most students enroll for the 3 credit hours (112.5 working hours) required for an internship experience. Students may take more credits with approval of their faculty advisor. Internships may be taken for zero (0) credits to provide a record of account for Miami Plan experiential learning. Full internship experiences require participation in the internship, course-related activities, and completion of a final evaluation. Internships are available in fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters.
You must secure an internship before enrolling in CCA340. Your internship can take place anywhere in the creative sector. While you can self-direct your internship search, resources are available. It is expected that students will meet with an AMAE faculty advisor prior to securing an internship. Once approved, students should go to the link below and apply for the internship via Handshake. Enrollment requires permission of the instructor and approval by the supervisor at the internship location. Students must have a 2.0 GPA and have 24+ hours (2+ semesters) to be eligible for an internship. Thus, the first opportunity to take an internship for credit is the summer after your first year.
