Students bridge generational divides in new exhibition
How do we define the spaces between generations—and how might art help bridge them? These questions anchor Bridging Generational Gaps, the 10th Student Response Exhibition presented by the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum (RCCAM) in collaboration with Miami University’s Department of Art.
Inspired by the book Gentelligence: The Revolutionary Approach to Leading an Intergenerational Workforce by Miami University Professor Megan Gerhardt, the exhibition invites students from across disciplines to explore how age, experience, and perspective shape the ways we connect—or disconnect—across generations.
From ceramics and photography to textiles, drawing, and poetry, Miami students have responded to the prompt: “What do generational gaps mean to you? How do you define them? What do generational gaps look like to you?”
Through these works, artists challenge stereotypes, celebrate shared experiences, and reflect on the bridges that connect us across time, family, and culture.

About the Student Response Exhibition
RCCAM’s annual Student Response Exhibition invites Miami University students to creatively engage with themes that connect art, culture, and community. The program encourages cross-disciplinary participation and highlights student voices through juried, theme-based exhibitions that foster dialogue and reflection.
This year’s exhibition is co-coordinated by the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum (RCCAM) and the Department of Art, led by Jason E. Shaiman, Curator of Exhibitions at RCCAM, and Billy Simms, Western Center Coordinator.
The exhibition is presented with support from jurors and organizers Amanda Alexander, Chair, Department of Art; Megan Gerhardt, Professor, Farmer School of Business; Sherri Krazl, Associate Director of Event Promotion & Community Engagement, College of Creative Arts; and Ann Taulbee, Director of the Hiestand Galleries.
