Faculty Resources
The Office of the Dean of Students can help facilitate communication between staff/faculty and students, related to their concerns and personal emergencies.
Faculty Notifications
The Dean of Students Office does not excuse student absences from class. However, our office can verify absences and will notify faculty in cases where a student is hospitalized or experiences a death in the immediate family (grandparent, parent or sibling).
Notices about ill students will be distributed by the Student Health Services if it determines a notification is warranted (513-529-3000).
Consultation
Are you concerned about a student’s physical or mental health? Has a student’s behavior disrupted your class or caused you to worry about their future actions? A situation, observation, or instinct tells you to be concerned about a student, but you’re not sure what to do or where to start and worry that you’ll make things worse.
Don’t let that stop you from taking action. You have the opportunity to intervene and make a difference.
Members of the staff of the Office of the Dean of Students have expertise in a wide variety of issues involving students. We can present to all types of groups, large and small. We are available for divisional gatherings, faculty meetings, TA trainings, seminars, etc. focused on the topics of identifying and intervening with students in distress.
If you or your team is interested in having our office present to your group, please fill out the brief form linked below.
Once the form is received, we will review it and contact you to go over the details. We look forward to working together to create a culture of care at Miami University.
