Our Vision
Miami University’s Department of Family Science and Social Work promotes a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected relationships between theory, research, and practice (e.g., prevention, intervention) by incorporating knowledge, values, and skills from the fields of social work, human development, and family science.
Our programs prepare students to respond ethically to the complex needs of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities from a global, social justice orientation.
Accreditation and Certification
Accreditation and certification provide added assurance to students and prospective employers that our degree programs meet the highest standards.
- Graduates of FSWs social work majors are eligible to apply to be a Provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) from the National Council on Family Relations.
- FSW’s social work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and is in line with the NASW Code of Ethics.
Summary of the Program’s Assessment Plan
All Council on Social Work Education programs measure and report student learning outcomes. Students are assessed on their mastery of the competencies that comprise the accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education. These competencies are dimensions of social work practice that all social workers are expected to master during their professional training. A measurement benchmark is set by the social work programs for each competency. An assessment score at or above that benchmark is considered by the program to represent mastery of that particular competency.
