Miami University’s College of Education, Health, and Society recently celebrated participants in the PELEA grant program, a partnership with the Hamilton County Educational Service Center (ESC) that helps paraprofessionals earn their teaching licenses and TESOL endorsements. The program prepares educators to work across K–12 classrooms with a focus on inclusive, language-rich instruction. As part of the celebration, each of the new educators received a set of new, high-interest books to begin building their classroom libraries—thanks to a generous donation from the Queen City Book Bank. Katie Droder, a Miami alum and former teacher, curated the collection, reflecting the diverse needs of students in these future classrooms.

Queen City Book Bank works in tandem with community partners to champion literacy development through tutoring, Little Free Libraries, literacy outreach, and book access. The organization strives to eliminate barriers to reading and ensure that the right books reach the children who need them most.
