Global Readiness Certificate

The Global Readiness Certificate (GRC) is designed for students of all majors who wish to position themselves strategically for employment in today’s increasingly competitive and global workforce.

About the Certificate

The certificate combines Miami coursework with experiential learning focused on global readiness and intercultural assessments. The courses and experiences in this certificate program will provide students with the knowledge, awareness, and skills necessary for global and intercultural communication and teamwork.

Upon completion of the certificate, students will:

  • Demonstrate respect when engaging with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Communicate across cultural boundaries
  • Describe and demonstrate ideas of responsible global citizenship
  • Effectively apply culturally sensitive mindsets to interact with diverse individuals in our local and global communities

Certificate Requirements

The certificate includes components within 3 categories:

Category A: Coursework

  • Intercultural Consciousness Courses (12 credits)

Category B: Experiential Learning

  • Study Abroad or equivalent (6 credits)*

*Petitions for a study abroad equivalent experience will be reviewed by the University Committee on Internationalization

Category C: Intercultural Assessments

  • Two assessments will be given, one at the start of the certificate program and one upon completion

Application Process

Students are encouraged to allow up to two academic years to complete all of the certificate requirements, but are welcome to begin the certificate at any time.

An orientation session and initial intercultural assessment must be completed to declare the certificate. Orientations will be held twice annually.
