The Howe Writing Across the Curriculum Programs (HWAC) supports graduate teaching assistants and instructors in bringing writing into the classroom.

Teach with Writing

  • Workshops. Register for workshops on various topics related to teaching with writing (links to HWAC website).
  • Writing Assignment Advice Drop-In Hours.   Stop by the Howe Center for Writing Excellence (King 139) any Friday morning during the semester between 8:30-12 and talk over your course goals and assignment with one of our staff.
  • Disciplinary Writing Guides.  Browse resources for disciplinary writing conventions and practices created by Miami HCWE Faculty Writing Fellows (links to HWAC website).
  • HWC Handouts. Browse our library of over 40 online handouts on topics such as grammar, various types of writing, and integrating sources that you can share with your students.
  • Other Resources. Browse these links to other Miami and external resources that provide additional support for various writing topics and concerns.

Introduce Students to the HWC

  • Support Statements. Tell your students about the HWC on your syllabus or in Canvas.
  • Class Visits. Request for an HWC consultant to visit your on-campus or online course.
