Howe Writing Across the Curriculum (HWAC) is the faculty-focused arm of the Howe Center for Writing Excellence (HCWE). Our mission is to help faculty and graduate teaching assistants provide the most innovative, research-based writing instruction in the country. We offer regular workshops on topics related to writing instruction and host a Faculty Writing Fellows program. We also strive to give faculty and graduate students the resources they need to develop their own writing projects through open Writing Hours and Writing Retreats. Our efforts are guided by the HCWE's principles on writing, especially the idea that writing is enacted in specialized disciplines. We aim to influence writing-related research, practice, and polices at Miami and nationwide.

HWAC is overseen by Dr. Elizabeth Wardle (Director) and Dr. Ann Updike (Associate Director), with help from a small team of Graduate Assistant Directors.
