Miami University trustees approve new degree programs
The Miami University Board of Trustees began commencement weekend with the approval of seven new degree programs during its regular meeting on Friday, May 13.
The Miami University Board of Trustees began commencement weekend with the approval of seven new degree programs during its regular meeting on Friday, May 13.
Trustees approved the establishment of:
- A Master of Science in Clinical Engineering, a Master of Computer Science, and Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science within the College of Engineering and Computing;
- Majors in Sport Coaching and Sport Communication and Media, a Bachelor of Science in Sport Leadership and Management within the College of Education, Health and Society;
- A major in Studio Art and Bachelor in Studio Art within the College of Creative Arts;
- A new Environmental Earth Science - Bachelor of Science degree that will replace the current Environmental Earth Science - Bachelor of Arts degree program.
Trustees approved updates in the following areas:
- Revisions and edits to the Enabling Act of University Senate and Faculty Assembly.
- Revisions to the Miami University Textbook and Learning Materials Policy.
- Accepted the Completion Plan Update report.
The board also welcomed Elizabeth Mullenix to her upcoming role as interim provost and executive vice president of academic affairs. Mullenix, who currently serves as the dean of the College of Creative Arts, will succeed Jason Osborne beginning July 1.
Trustees also:
- Approved the awarding of Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees to Deena Chisolm ’90, Mahendra Vora, Dwight Merriman ’90, and Christine Taylor ‘98.
- Accepted the Committee for Naming Campus Facilities recommendation for naming new spaces in the recently dedicated Nursing Innovation Hub at Miami Regionals. The new space in the Nursing Innovation at University Hall on the Hamilton campus are: if the Hamilton Community Foundation Home Health Apartment Simulation Lab; the Kettering Health Hamilton Intensive Care Unit Simulation Lab; and the Kinnaird Family Foundation Conference Room..
- Directed the provost and executive vice president to submit the Completion Plan Update document to the Ohio Department of Higher Education.
