U.S. 27 north at Chestnut left turn lane to close temporarily

Beginning late Thursday, Nov. 13, or Friday, Nov. 14, the Ohio Department of Transportation will close the northbound U.S. 27 left turn lane at Chestnut and Patterson as it builds the new bridge across Collins Creek and the permanent new roadway along the east side.

Traffic will be shifted to the temporary pavement installed on the west side of U.S. 27/Patterson Avenue from near Tappan Hall south to the Oxford Cemetery.

Drivers may still turn left onto Chestnut from Patterson but must do so from the thru-traffic lane. Commuters using this roadway should expect increased traffic at the intersections of both Chestnut and Patterson and Spring and Patterson due to the new traffic patterns. During busy traffic times, commuters may want to take alternate routes to Oxford. A map is here.

The Ohio Department of Transportation contractor expects to re-open the turn lane by late spring or early summer.

Work on the roadways will continue through the winter months as weather permits.

This phase of construction on U.S. 27 is part of an ongoing two-year project to widen and resurface the 1.05-mile stretch of U.S. 27 between Southpointe Parkway and Chestnut Street. Work will include adding turn lanes and upgrading traffic signals.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone. For more information, you can email D08.PIO@dot.state.oh.us.

Most of the time, smooth northbound traffic is maintained through the intersection. However, for major events, back-ups may occur.
