U.S. Route 27

Culvert replacements - three periods beginning June 6

The Ohio Department of Transportation District 8 announced closures of three different sections of U.S. Route 27 beginning Monday, June 6, until late July for three separate culvert replacements.

The first culvert replacement will be south of Millville between Kirchling Road and SR 129 beginning at 7:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, and lasting through approximately Friday, June 17. Traffic will be detoured on SR 126, SR 748 and SR 129 to avoid the construction area. A map of the ODOT-recommended detour route is available online. Some staff are taking this detour, coming north to Oxford: From U.S. 27 turn right onto New London Rd.  Turn left onto Black Rd. Turn left onto Ross-Hanover Rd., right onto Santa Maria and left onto Rt 129 (Reily Millville Rd.).

The second culvert replacement will require a closing between Stillwell-Beckett and Stephenson roads. Construction will begin Monday, June 20, and last until approximately Tuesday, July 5 (update: the road is open July 8). Traffic will be detoured on SR 130, SR 177 and SR 73 to Oxford.

The third culvert replacement will require a closure at the intersection of Booth Road. Construction will begin Aug. 1 (this is an update). Second update: U.S. 27 is open as of 4:20 p.m. Aug. 5. Traffic will again be detoured on SR 130, SR 177 and SR 73 to Oxford.

A map of the ODOT-recommended detour route is available online.  As an alternative, from 27 north, some staff are detouring west onto Stillwell-Beckett, then north onto Kehr Rd. to Chestnut St.

Motorists should expect delays. All work is weather dependent. Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place prior to the work zone to alert motorists of the upcoming road closure.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
