Detour ahead: Regional road construction will affect travel to and from campus

detourRoad construction on U.S. Route 27 will affect travel to and from Miami University’s Oxford campus this summer.

The Ohio Department of Transportation District 8 announced closures of U.S. Route 27 beginning Monday, June 6, until mid-August for three separate culvert replacements.

The first culvert replacement will be between Kirchling Road and SR 129 beginning at 7:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, and lasting for approximately three weeks. Traffic will be detoured on SR 126 and SR 748 to avoid the construction area. A map of the ODOT-recommended detour route is available online.

The second culvert replacement will require a closing between Stillwell-Beckett and Stephenson roads. Construction will last approximately three weeks. Traffic will be detoured on SR 130, SR 177 and SR 73 to Oxford.

The third culvert replacement will require a closure between Stillwell-Beckett and Booth roads. Construction will last approximately three weeks. Traffic will again be detoured on SR 130, SR 177 and SR 73 to Oxford.

A map of the ODOT-recommended detour route is available online.

Motorists should expect delays. All work is weather dependent. Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place prior to the work zone to alert motorists of the upcoming road closure.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.

Culvert replacements along sections of state Route 73 between Oxford-Milford Road and state Route 177 are also possible during June. When details are clear, the university will include a notice of dates and related detours in a future Miami Wire or Miami Matters.
