Gov. John Kasich has appointed Tom Gunlock (Miami '76), director of construction and property management at RG Properties in Dayton, to Miami University’s board of trustees.

Gunlock recently served as a trustee with the Miami Valley Child Development Centers Inc., which provides Head Start programs for children at more than 50 locations in Montgomery, Clark and Madison counties.

Gunlock has been a volunteer with the Washington Township Fire Department as both a firefighter and emergency medical technician. He was named the Centerville Noon Optimist Club Firefighter/EMT of the Year and received the Award of Excellence from the Washington Township trustees.

Gunlock’s work experiences include being a high school teacher and assistant football coach at Morehead State University.

Gunlock was appointed to the State Board of Education in January 2011, and was reappointed in 2014. During part of that tenure, he served as vice president and from 2015-2016 as president of the board. He also served as chairperson of the capacity and accountability committees and as a member on the Board’s graduation committee.

He holds a master of arts degree in education from Ball State University and a bachelor of science degree in education from Miami University. Gunlock and his family are longtime Centerville residents.

Trustees are appointed to nine-year terms. Gunlock replaces Steve Wilson, who left the board upon being appointed to fill an open Ohio Senate seat in January. Gunlock will serve until Feb. 28, 2023.
