Moving out? Lighten your load and help others: Donate to ShareFest

By Susan Meikle, university news and communications

sharefest-top-10Preparing to move out this week? Don't discard useful items — donate furniture, clothing and other items to the 14th annual Sharefest during Miami's Move-Out Week, May 16-22.

Last year ShareFest generated a record 87 tons of donations from Miami students moving out of Oxford.

When ShareFest started in 2005, donations served 65 area families.

Now, more than 600 families in need and area social service agencies benefit from ShareFest donations — items that might otherwise have ended up in the landfill.

Recipient groups give their donations to families free of charge or sell them to help fund services to their clients.

sharefest-top6How to Donate:

  • Schedule a donation pickup: fill out the form online and ShareFest volunteers will come pick up your items.
  • Anyone in the 45056 zip code may schedule a donation pickup.
  • DIY: Drop off your donation at Chestnut Fields parking lot (101 W. Chestnut St.) between 9 a.m.-6 p.m. through Tuesday, May 22.
  • On-campus students may donate items at a designated area in each residence hall.

sharefest-unique-3Volunteers and sponsors from more than 30 groups from the Miami and Oxford communities, nonprofit agencies and area businesses contribute to the success and growth of ShareFest each year.

Check out the ShareFest website for more information about how to volunteer.
