Gratitude shared for committee and task force work

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force and Safe Return to Campus Planning and Coordinating Committee recognized

President Greg Crawford convened the Safe Return to Campus Planning and Coordinating Committee and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force during 2020 to address two critical issues affecting the health and wellbeing of the Miami community—the pandemic and racial unrest in the United States.

In two special videos, President Crawford commends the members of these two groups, grateful for their hard work and for their continued service.

The Diversity and Equity Task Force, chaired by Vicka Bell-Robinson and Anthony James, created recommendations for the president this fall.

With their charge complete, a new committee, under the leadership of James, is now convening to begin work on implementation.  James has been named the interim vice president for institutional diversity. Bell-Robinson is director of residence life.

The Safe Return to Campus Planning and Coordinating Committee, led by Dana Cox and Gwen Fears, continues to serve the university in navigating through the pandemic. Cox is professor of mathematics. Fears is assistant vice president for student life.

Recently, the efforts of an aggressive, targeted testing plan and a strong campaign to wear masks, adhere to physical distance guidelines, and wash hands, have led to a decrease in positive COVID-19 cases within the Miami community.
