President Crawford and the President's Executive Cabinet issue statement on events in Congress
"Like many across our nation and around the world, we at Miami were dismayed at the violent, attempted disruption of the certification of the presidential election results yesterday. This attack and Congress's unwavering response highlight both the fragility and the vitality of our democracy. The orderly and peaceful transition of power is indispensable to our system of government and our way of life. We applaud our elected officials for completing that work and affirming our nation's commitment to upholding the Constitution of the United States of America. We stand in solidarity with all who oppose this threat to our nation.
Our values at Miami University commit us to the common good, solidarity, respectful dialogue, civil discourse, and the unfettered, evidence-based search for truth. Our mission as an educational institution includes elevating awareness of our democratic government and civic responsibility. With many well-respected experts on our campuses on the Constitution, the Electoral College, and our democracy, we will be providing the campus community a virtual seminar on these topics when classes begin. Please join us for this important opportunity to learn and grow as individuals and as a community."
