Top students representing each of Ohio’s 88 counties have been selected to receive Miami University’s new Governor’s Scholarship, an award that will cover the recipients’ full tuition and fees beginning with the 2020-2021 academic year.

The scholarships will have a freshman year total value of $1.4 million.

“It is especially gratifying to award this new scholarship to 88 Ohio students given the hardships so many families are facing right now,” said Bethany Perkins, director of admission at Miami.

“The Governor’s Scholarship affirms our commitment to serving the state by providing affordable access to one of the country’s leading universities. The fact that Miami alumnus Mike DeWine is Ohio’s governor during the scholarship’s inaugural year is particularly fitting,” she said.

The scholarship underscores Miami's continued commitment to affordable college access for Ohio residents. Kiplinger ranked Miami No. 53 in the nation in 2019 among “Best Values in Public Colleges” for in-state residents. Miami has ranked among the 100 “best values” every year since 1998.

Miami’s four-year graduation rate ranks No. 1 among public universities in Ohio and No. 26 among public universities nationally.

The scholarship recipients were chosen based primarily on academic performance, but financial need was also considered.
