October brings awareness to online security

By Randy Hollowell, information technology services

Information and cyber security continues to grow as a significant issue for higher education and for individuals everywhere. Because of this, October is now deemed as National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM).

It was created as a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure every American has the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online.

Since its inception under leadership from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance, NCSAM has grown exponentially, reaching consumers, small and medium-sized businesses, corporations, educational institutions and young people across the nation. 2015 marks the 12th year of National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Once again Miami will be taking part in recognizing the importance of NCSAM with a variety of events on the Oxford, Hamilton and Middletown campuses.  An information booth will be available at various locations on each campus throughout the month of October. Stop by to learn about how you can better protect yourself, your information and your devices, as well as meet Miami’s information security staff and spin the prize wheel.
