From sunrise to sundown, a day at Miami can be full of healthy options

People often ask me to describe a typical day in the world of Benefits & Wellness. I tell them every day is different, and I love the variety each day brings. Here is a sample of a typical day in the life of a Benefits & Wellness staff member, including all the options for fitting health into your day.

6 a.m. Coffee is brewed and parking spaces are filling up. Faculty and staff can grab a morning workout in the Fitness 4 Life Fitness Center or take a sunrise stroll in the Miami Natural Area Trails. 

10:30 a.m. After catching up on emails, you can head over to Armstrong’s Ford Family Meditation Space for 20 minutes of guided relaxation or stop by the Health Services Center for a quick, confidential blood pressure screening.

Lunchtime. After a meeting or two, but before you eat, re-energize with a Fitness 4 Life workshop or class (options include Yoga, Zumba, Kung Fu, Spinning, Ice Skating, and more) or catch 30 minutes of personal training at the Fitness Center.

Midafternoon. Take a 10 minute break to check your Healthy Miami account and register for your 2016 Biometric Health Screening. You can complete multiple steps for the 2016 premium discount program online and be on your way to saving in 2017.

After work. If you prefer to work out when the workday is done, you have options four nights a week in addition to the 4-6 p.m. fitness center hours. From the classic Team Miami Plus “couch to 5K” training program to Kickboxing and Hip Hop fitness classes in Withrow, you can finish your day with a great workout and head home feeling accomplished.

Every day I am inspired by the growing culture of Miami faculty and staff that take time in their day to build energy or restore calm with our wellness programs or through their own practices.
