Awarding Process

Miami's financial aid packages are processed in the following manner:

  1. Scholarships are awarded to eligible students. No separate application is required.
  2. Federal Pell Grants are awarded to eligible students based on their Expected Family Contribution (EFC)
  3. If a FAFSA was filed by Miami's priority deadline (the Priority I Deadline for new, first-year, undergraduate students applying to the Oxford campus is December 1, 2016; the Priority II Deadline is February 1, 2017; the priority deadline for returning students, regional campus students, and new, incoming transfer and graduate students is February 1), University-administered need-based aid, grants, and scholarships are awarded within the limits of available funds and eligibility criteria.
    • Federal Work-Study (FWS) is awarded to eligible students with high financial need who filed their FAFSA by Miami's priority deadline and indicated on the FAFSA an interest in work-study.
  4. Federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant is awarded to eligible students meeting grant criteria.
  5. Federal Direct Stafford Loans are awarded to students based on federal eligibility guidelines.

Students awarded financial aid receive notification of their awards. The award package includes all available funds.
