What is College Credit Plus?

College Credit Plus (CCP) enables eligible students who are enrolled in Ohio middle and high schools (grades 7-12) and who are also eligible to enroll in Miami University to earn high school and college credit simultaneously. These earned credits appear on the student’s high school and college academic records or transcripts.

There is no cost for Ohio students enrolled in Ohio public schools to participate in Miami’s College Credit Plus program. The student’s public high school and Miami share the cost of the College Credit Plus course. Ohio private school students must contact their guidance office to determine the process to seek funding from the Ohio Department of Education and what, if any, costs are associated with enrolling in this program.

There are two different ways that students can participate in College Credit Plus. The most common is for qualified high school students to enroll in a course or a set of courses on one of Miami’s campuses during any semester or term. In rare situations, Miami will allow qualified high school teachers to offer Miami courses at their high school.

Payment and Credit

There are two options for payment and credit for courses taken under the College Credit Plus program.

For Option A, which is less common, public, community, or non-public high school students choose, upon enrollment, college credit or both high school and college credit. In this case, the cost of the college tuition is funded entirely by the student's family.

For Option B, which is more common, students receive both high school and college credit. For public high school and community school students, there is no transfer of tuition between student and college. The high school's state foundation will pay the college directly. If the student is enrolled in a non-public high school, or is home-schooled, the cost may be subsidized by funds set aside by the Ohio General Assembly in each biennium and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to receive this funding, the student must provide the state with an application for funding form and a copy of a letter of acceptance from the university. Public, community, or non-public high school, or home-schooled, students electing this option may not be required to pay for tuition or books. Non-public and home-schooled students will be notified by the state if their request for funding is approved. Additional Guidelines

• Public secondary school students in Ohio who meet eligibility requirements may participate in Miami’s CCP program.
• Students are permitted to participate in the CCP program during the fall and spring semesters, as well as winter and summer terms. Please note: Due to the accelerated pace of winter term course, CCP students are urged to confer with an advisor prior to enrolling in any winter term courses.
• Students enrolling in the program will be expected and required to perform at the same level as all regular students. CCP students are subject to the same policies and procedures, academic practices, and grading standards as all other Miami students.
• CCP courses offered at high schools must follow the same course syllabus, use the same textbook and materials, promote the same learning outcomes, and be assessed using the same methods as the course offered on a Miami campus.
• The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) applies to education records at all levels of education. At the point of becoming a Miami student, FERPA rights become those of the student. Without written consent from the student, a dependent student’s information cannot be disclosed, even to a parent. However, under the rules of College Credit Plus, the University reserves the right to communicate student record information to appropriate official(s) of the home high school. Information will not be released to parents without signed authorization from the student.
• Miami will assign all CCP students an academic advisor. Students should communicate with their advisor prior to the start of the semester or in the first two weeks of the semester.
• College Credit Plus will not allow nor fund remedial courses at Miami. These courses are listed below:

  ENG007	Fundamentals of Writing, 3 credit hours
  ENG007/ENG111	Blended, 2 credit hours developmental plus 3 credit hours college level
  EDT002	College Reading II, 3 credit hours
  MTH049	Qualitative Reasoning, 3 credit hours
  MTH025	Algebra for Precalculus, 5 credit hours
  MTH011- MTH019	Math Emporium, 9 modules

• CCP students are not allowed to enroll in one-on-one private instruction, courses with fees that exceed the amount set by the Chancellor, physical education courses, courses taken Credit/No Credit, study abroad programs, or international workshops.
• The state of Ohio requires any male student between the ages of 18 and 26 to be registered with Selective Service to be eligible for in-state residency (for tuition purposes) at Ohio public colleges and universities. Any male students who turn 18 while taking classes as a CCP student must register immediately for Selective Service or their residency status will be changed to out-of-state and they will be responsible for the additional out-of-state charges.
