What is Computer Technology [Continuation Option]?

The Computer Technology (Continuation Option) program is essentially half of the courses in the bachelor's degree major in Computer Science or Software Engineering or Computer Engineering or Engineering Management, and is designed for students who wish to earn an associate degree in computing and ultimately obtain a bachelor's degree in a related major at the Oxford Campus.

Please see an advisor for specific majors and requirements. After completing the associate degree, students may relocate to the Oxford Campus and continue with junior standing.

What are the features of Miami’s program?

Pathway to Oxford programs

This associate degree is built on the first two years of programs that must be completed in Oxford - Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Computer Engineering. Courses taken at the regionals for this program are the same courses taken at the Oxford campus.

Midpoint degree

If you cannot take a full load of courses each semester and are stretching out the time it takes to meet your bachelor's degree goals, earning an associate's degree at the midway point of your studies will help you show employers that you have reached a significant milestone in your goals.

What are the special admission requirements, if any?

There are no additional admission requirements for this program.

What courses would I take?

The first two years you will primarily be taking Miami Plan courses and programming courses to provide a foundation in software design and development.

The other years in Oxford the curriculum integrates course work in software engineering (architecture, construction, quality assurance, requirements analysis, and human computer interaction), computer science (such as computer networks, database, game programming, and others) database, project management, mathematics, statistics, science, oral and written communications, and the liberal arts.

What can I do with this major?

Students who wish to find employment after completing this associate degree are prepared for positions such as computer programmers and system support personnel.
