Sweet MUMories

Sweet MUMories First to 50 Celebration 2016.

It's our history…it's your history…help us write it! As part of the 50th anniversary year we are building an oral history and photo archive, collecting the stories of alumni, faculty, staff, and community members. You are cordially invited to share your "Sweet MUMories" of Miami University Middletown. A videographer will be on hand for these events to help capture those memories. And if you have old photos to share, bring them along so we can scan them at the event.

Tales from the Classroom • July 12 • 6:30 pm • Verity Lodge

Over 1,700 students, both full and part time, enrolled at Miami Middletown when it opened its doors in 1966. The first to enroll were two members of the Middletown High School Class of 1966: Robert "Corky" Cordray and Judy Cook Sisson. Since then thousands have attended classes at MUM – and there are thousands of stories of student life on campus over the past five decades. MUM alumnae Bev Howard, Eleanor Gilmore and Lois Wood invite you to share your stories about classes, classrooms, and professors.

Student Leaders of Yesterday – Community Leaders of Today • August 9 • 6:30 pm • Verity Lodge

Many students helped change the face of the campus over the years by taking part in student organizations or working campus jobs. Carol Caudill, Daphne Eldridge and Wanita Hatton invite you back to campus to share your unique out-of-the-classroom experiences. Whether you worked in the mail room with Olame Pearson or in the Gardner-Harvey Library with Virginia Brown, you have a story they would love to hear.

Books No More • September 13 • 6:30 pm • Gardner-Harvey Library

Gardner-Harvey Library opened in 1966 with about 6,000 volumes and held 64,000 books when head librarian, Virginia Brown, retired at the end of December 1978. Belinda Martindell, Virginia Ellis Palmer and John Burke invite you to share your great research stories and for those who spent time working there sharing what went on behind the scenes. They will discuss how the library has changed, special events it hosted, and what it was like to work there.

Encore! • October 11 • 6:30 pm • Dave Finkelman Auditorium Lobby

From Aerosmith to the Moscow Ballet, Middletown Symphony Orchestra and Bunny Hollow Players to Nobel laureates, dance recitals, and graduations, the Dave Finkelman Auditorium has hosted thousands of events since it opened in 1969. Join Les Landen, Mike McVey, Ron Fetzer, and Jeff Sams to share your favorite backstage stories, recall the most memorable performances you saw there, or reminisce about your time on the stage as a performer. Got old programs or tickets in your collection? Please bring them to share.

Warriors to ThunderHawks • November 8 • 6:30 pm • Bennett Rec Center

It's better than a slam-dunk in basketball, a home run in baseball or a perfect spike in volleyball. It's better than all these rolled into one. It's the memories of being part of the team. Lynn Darbyshire, Cheryl Miller and Jim Sliger invite you to share those road trip stories, before game traditions, and the journeys to the big win.

Memories of Verity Lodge • December 13 • 6:30 pm • Verity Lodge

Verity Lodge, named after the Armco founder George M. Verity, is the campus' oldest building. Originally the Armco Girls' Association Lodge, it was donated to Miami and became the campus' first administrative office, library, and later its student center. Over the years Verity Lodge has been the host site for many campus functions, community receptions, and meetings.

You Helped Build a Campus • January 10 • 6:30 pm • Verity Lodge

The community made the campus possible and has steadily supported it for five decades. Duane Gordon, Michelle Lawrence, and Ellen Paxton invite Miami Middletown donors and community partners to share why they invested in the campus to help make this dream a reality. This is also an opportunity for the campus to continue to thank the many generous donors for all they have done and continue to do.

Faculty Fables • February 7 • 6:30 pm • Classroom in Johnston Hall

Our faculty have touched so many lives by being academic advisors, student organization advisors, life mentors and research colleagues. Cathy Bishop-Clark, Mark Plageman and Rob Speckert invite you to come share these moments and fun times had outside the classroom.

Canceled: The Road to Success through Scholarship • March 14

Many students had their opportunities at Miami Middletown made possible because of scholarships that were made available by donors throughout our community. We invite you to share why you, as an individual or an organization, believed so strongly in the future that scholarship funding was a priority for you. Also, as a student who received scholarship support while at MUM, why was that so important, and what did it make possible for you?

Anecdotes from the Campus • April 11 • 6:30 pm • Verity Lodge

Early faculty members Cathie Mulligan and Chris Parker with current faculty members Jeff Kuznekoff and Janet Marshall invite you to share lessons learned in 50 years of teaching. In this session we will examine how classroom technology has changed, the challenges professors faced in the classroom throughout the years, and how current events made an impact in the classroom.
