Student Center Fee

2002 – ASG President David Doyle becomes the first of ​seven consecutive Student Body Presidents to voice the need for a dedicated student center to the Board of Trustees.

2004 – Analysis of Shriver Center completed in response to ASG resolutions supporting a more adequate student center for Miami University.

2007 – A feasibility study is conducted on the construction of a new student center. The study relies heavily on student feedback through surveys and focus groups.

April 2008 – Miami University’s Board of Trustees approves planning for the student center. It is to be constructed at the current sites of Culler, Gaskill and Rowan Halls, in the heart of Miami’s campus. (Meeting minutes).

October 2009 – Robert Keller, university architect, and David Creamer, Vice President of Finance and Business Services, announce a reinvigorated building plan for the student center. The plan involves using new and existing structures.

February 2010 – Associated Student Government passes a senate resolution unanimously supporting the construction of a new student center and the levying of a fee not to exceed $125 per student per semester. (ASG passes BCS resolution).

July 2010 – Alumni Mike ’61 and Anne ’61 Armstrong provide a $15 million leadership gift to name the Armstrong Student Center.

October 6, 2011 – A ceremonial groundbreaking officially celebrates the start of construction.

October 23, 2012 – The final steel beam is put in place over the Armstrong Student Center, marking a significant construction milestone.

February 27, 2013 - First meeting of the Armstrong Student Center Board. This group of 18 students began working together to develop policies and procedures for the new student center.

January 27, 2014 – Doors to the Armstrong Student Center open for full operation.
