IFC Recruitment
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the umbrella organization for recognized fraternities on campus. IFC consists of one representative from each fraternity and an executive board of annually elected officers.
The Miami University IFC has been recognized as one of the most outstanding fraternal governing councils in the nation. Opportunities to become involved with IFC are open to all interested fraternity members. Fraternity Recruitment Eligibility Requirements
All Governing Councils, fraternities, and sororities may establish standards of membership including, but not limited to, credit hour and grade point average requirements. To affiliate with a fraternity or sorority, A student must have completed, at Miami University or other accredited institution of higher education:
- One full-time fall or spring semester.
- 12 college credit hours (does not include, AP, IB, dual-enrollment credit achieved in high school).
- At least a 2.75 minimum, cumulative, grade point average for Interfraternity Council fraternities. (Transfer GPAs cannot be combined – only the most recent college GPA received will be considered).
- The on-line education course prior to formally accepting a bid of membership.
- Student eligibility will be verified through the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life prior to the chapter extending any form of invitation to membership. Only transcripts from the most recent institution attended will be considered.
- Once membership has been gained to a fraternity or sorority, it is up to each chapter to determine an individual’s requirements to maintain membership.
Other Requirements
- To be eligible to participate in Fraternity Recruitment and a Spring New Member Program, these requirements must be met by the end of the fall academic term.
- Winter or J-Term grades and credit hours will be be counted in determining recruitment eligibility. For those participating in Winter Term courses, grades must be verified before a chapter can formally extend a bid through Campus Director.
- New Member Orientation course must be completed prior to the beginning of recruitment to be eligible to participate. This online course is a two part module that covers the benefits of joining the fraternity and sorority community and the expectations of joining Miami Greek Life. This will be completed through the Canvas platform.
- Special conditions apply for those who join a fraternity and seek to be exempted from living on campus in the residence halls. Learn more about the Fraternity Exemption.
