Appointments and Fees

Virtual Appointments FAQs

What virtual/telebehavioral health (TBH) services are provided by SCS?

We currently provide a virtual option for individual and/or group therapy through a live video connection.

What platform do you use for virtual services?

We use a platform called WebEx for online therapy services. You will receive a link via email for virtual appointments. WebEx is free to you, but it does require internet access to link to the video conference. You must be comfortable with this technology to engage in teletherapy. It’s also important to remember that technology has the potential for breakdowns and interruptions.

How much do the services cost?

Virtual therapy is the same fee structure as in-person therapy. You will be charged a $25 no-show fee for missed virtual appointments.

Why do I need to attend a pre-screening before starting virtual therapy?

The purpose of the virtual pre-screening is to confirm whether virtual therapy is appropriate for your needs and unique situation.

Am I eligible for virtual services at Miami Student Counseling Service?

You must be physically located in the state of Ohio during all sessions and enrolled as an Oxford campus student to receive counseling. If you do not meet this criteria, we can provide phone consultation, case management, and referral information. Additional information about the Scope of Services for SCS is listed online.

You will also be asked to verify your physical location/address at the beginning of each contact/appointment. You will need to find a secure location that allows for reasonable confidentiality.

Can I video or audio record the sessions?

We ask that students do not screenshot or record (video/audio) the sessions. For some specific clinicians who are training, they will gain your consent to record, if appropriate.

How might virtual therapy feel different than in-person services?

While virtual counseling may feel different than being in-person with a therapist, we want to replicate the in-person experience as much as possible. Think about the appointment as though you are physically in the same space as the therapist. Please be aware of your clothing, location, and any possible distractions in your space (e.g., having other screens open, using your cell phone, etc.). If we have a concern about your privacy, we may ask to see your space.

What are some reasons I might not qualify for teletherapy?

Your therapist will determine if safety concerns are present and relevant to the situation. Sometimes virtual therapy is not well-suited for some people or concerns. Additionally, you must be located in the state of Ohio and have a confidential space to talk.

Why do you require an emergency contact and the telephone number of my local police department?

To ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in virtual therapy, we require the contact information of the police department near your physical location, and an emergency contact should a serious situation arise during the treatment session.

I am eager to start virtual therapy sessions. What is the next step?

To schedule a virtual appointment, please call our office at 513-529-4634 to set up a brief pre-screening to answer additional questions, assess eligibility, and review policies.

How much does counseling cost?
