The Student Counseling Service is committed to excellence in the treatment of mental health concerns in the Miami community through primary prevention, mental health education, and advocacy.
Overview
Our staff of mental health clinicians offers consultation and outreach services to Miami University residence halls, student organizations, committees, faculty, and staff and administrative offices.
We provide consultation and programming to prevent mental health concerns and to enhance understanding of campus mental health and wellbeing.
Some commonly requested psychoeducational programs include:
- Anxiety management and stress reduction.
- Coping with homesickness, depression, and loneliness.
- Suicide prevention and mental health gatekeeper trainings, including Campus Assistance Programs (CAP), QPR (Question Persuade & Refer), and Mental Health First Aid for faculty and staff to teach how to identify, intervene with, and refer students with psychological concerns.
- Team identity and growth for athletes and others in campus organizations.
- Managing relationship conflict.
- Sexual assault and interpersonal violence psychoeducation and response to critical incidents in the halls.
- Providing difficult news or feedback to others.
- Managing long-distance romantic relationships.
