Graphics Tools / Resources

Canva.com

Canva is a free online app that allows you to utilize graphic elements and templates to create your own professional looking graphics. No graphic design skills needed! Create badges, course titles and headings, slides, social media graphics, and more!

Creative Commons

Non-profit service provider where authors can share and license their work. Creative Commons licensed work includes images, videos, music, and text.

LucidChart

LucidChart is a concept-mapping tool, that lets you diagram, brainstorm, model, and map content. This is an easy-to-use tool subjects that include complex concepts or processes that could benefit from visual clarification. LucidChart diagrams can easily be embedded into Canvas pages or downloaded in various other file formats.

Library of Congress

Rich resource of historical images, videos, audio, and written documents including books and articles. Some items contained in the collections are copyrighted.

Flickr

Access Flickr images within Canvas using the image icon on the second row of the toolbar for copyright free images. Additional images are located on the Flickr site with copyright notations.

Pixabay

Is a site that contains free images and videos. You will need to join Pixabay to take advantage of this resource. "All images and videos on Pixabay are released free of copyrights under Creative Commons CC0. You may download, modify, distribute, and use them royalty free for anything you like, even in commercial applications. Attribution is not required."

Presentation Tools—not all tools listed below are accessible!

Google Slides

Google Slides (formerly Google Presentations) is the Google answer to PowerPoint. Slides, like all of the Google Apps, are updated in real-time and accessible anywhere with Internet. Slides presentations can be embedded into Canvas pages so that students can easily “flip” through content.

Slideshare

Slideshare is an online presentation tool that allows you share and store presentations. These presentations can be embedded straight into a Canvas pages with the embed code that you can get from the Slideshare website.

Prezi

Prezi is a presentation tool that can be used as an alternative PowerPoint or Google Slides. Prezi uses one large canvas to draw, organize and arrange your content. Additional features add animation including pan and zoom to add emphasis.

Adobe Spark

Adobe Spark (formerly Adobe Slate) is a great way to add images and motion to your message.

Screencast-o-Matic

Screencast-o-Matic is a free screen recording software you use online.  Provide instruction and demonstrations to your students by recording and uploading your videos into Canvas.

Camtasia

Overview and trial download only. This software has more features than Screencast-o-matic which allows you to record your screen, videos and audio, then edit your recording. Once you finalize your video you can embed it directly into Canvas.

Social Media / Communication / Blogging

WordPress (for faculty only)—Miami University offers faculty access to a WordPress blog that can be set up for each course. To request a WordPress blog for your course just complete the request form.
