Exploring Campus

Swim meetOnce you are all settled in and have met the other residents in your corridor, you probably want to get out and see what your campus looks like in more detail. Walk, bike, or ride the Miami Metro to these main areas of campus.

Shriver Center

Located in the center of campus, Shriver is filled to the brim with certain Miami essentials, including ATMs and meeting facilities. Haines Food Court and Tuffy's provide several dining choices and offer toasted rolls, a tasty Miami tradition. Shriver Center is also home to the University Box Office, First Miami Student Credit Union, Spring Street Market, and the University Bookstore, which sells sportswear, textbooks, and school supplies.

The Recreational Sports Center

After giving your mind a workout, give your body one at the Recreational Sports Center. All you need to get into the Rec is your student ID, motivation, and determination.

The Rec offers basketball, volleyball, and racquetball courts, and several other calorie-burning activities:

King Library

One of the four libraries on campus, King Library has over two million volumes, online access, and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You are bound to find what you are looking for in here. The other three libraries on campus offer quiet study spaces as well: B.E.S.T. Library (business, engineering, science, and technology) in Laws Hall, Wertz Library (art and architecture) in Alumni Hall, and Amos Library (music) in the Center for Performing Arts.

Cook Field

Located between East Quad and Academic Quad, this field hosts numerous intramural sports events as well as concerts and festivals.

Goggin Ice Center

This $35 million state-of-the-art facility features two NHL-size sheets of ice, including the 3,200-seat Steve Cady Arena, where you can come to cheer on the RedHawks hockey team. You can also test your personal skills at hockey, ice skating, or broomball by participating in one of over 500 intramural teams that play here.

Millett Hall

Millett Hall is home to RedHawk basketball and volleyball. Millett is also the venue for Fall Commencement and various speakers and entertainers invited to campus throughout the year. Recent guests have included the Dalai Lama and comedian Jeff Dunham.
