Recreational Sports Center

Located at 750 S. Oak St. in Oxford, OH 45056, our recreational sports center has been providing service to the Miami and Oxford communities for 20 years. We offer a wide range of services and programming throughout our facilities listed below.

Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center

The Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center is a world-class aquatic center that hosts a wide variety of competitive swimming, diving, water polo, and synchronized swimming events throughout the year. The Aquatic Center is highlighted by an eight-lane, 50m pool and a separate 25m well, containing 1m, 5m, 7m, and 10m platforms, a Leisure Pool and a Spa.

Sports Forum

The sports forum is great for the drop-in recreation of our patrons. Our dedicated staff is able to set up nets for volleyball, badminton, pickleball, and tennis, so this space can be utilized by a wide range of sports enthusiasts. The basketball courts are a popular destination for the Miami students and community members alike. Overlooking the sports forum is a urethane track with four lanes to accommodate for walkers as well as runners.

Facility Activities

Fitness Center Policies

  • Individuals under age 15 must be accompanied by an adult in the Fitness Center.
  • Closed-toe footwear must be worn at all times.
  • Food is prohibited in the Fitness Center.
  • Only beverages in a non-glass container with lid are permitted.
  • Do not drop weights or weight stacks.
  • Do not prop weights against walls or equipment.
  • Spring collars must be used at all times on plate-loaded bars.
  • Top loading additional weights onto weight stack machines is prohibited.
  • All exercises must be performed in a safe and controlled manner.
  • All equipment may only be used for a maximum of 30 minutes.
  • Clean equipment and return to proper storage areas after use.
  • Be considerate of others, and aware of space you or others are occupying.
  • All personal belongings must be stored in lockers.
  • Miami University will not be held responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
  • All injuries, maintenance needs, and concerns should be immediately reported to staff.
  • Personal trainers, coaches, and consultants (other than Rec Center employees) are not permitted to conduct training in this facility.
  • Individuals must comply with all instructions given by Rec Center employees.
  • Failure to comply with Fitness Center Regulations or instructions given by Rec Center employees may result in suspension of facility privileges.

Outdoor Pursuit Center

The Outdoor Pursuit Center located in the Miami Rec Center just underwent a renovation to now include a retail center. The OPC offers a wide range of opportunities including Academic Courses, Adventure Trips, Climbing Center, Miami Bound, Outdoor Leadership Living Learning Communities, Team Building, and the Youth Climbing Team.

Climbing Center

The Climbing Center hosts a range of activities and opportunities. Whether you are new to climbing or an expert, you can take advantage of equipment rentals, 'Try Climbs', Climbing Fundamentals class, personal instruction, the free bouldering cave, and much more. We also offer exclusive climbing wall rental programs outside of our operating hours.

Policies

  • Climbing is inherently dangerous, climb at your own risk.
  • All climbers must complete a Climbing Wall orientation.
  • All climbers must check-in at the Climbing Wall desk (except during Open Bouldering hours when the Climbing Center is not open).
  • Bouldering is only permitted on the main wall during Climbing Center hours.
  • Bouldering is not permitted above 12 feet.
  • Roped climbing is only permitted when during Climbing Center hours (Including use of auto belays).
  • Persons under the age of 13 are not permitted to belay (protect a climber from a fall).
  • Lead Climbing is only permitted for climbers with Climbing Center credentials.
  • Use personal climbing equipment and rope at your discretion. The Climbing Center is not responsible for ensuring the condition or safety of personal climbing equipment or rope.
  • Climbing helmets are not required, but are available upon request.
  • Bare feet are not permitted in the climbing area.
  • Using the floor anchors while top-rope belaying is strongly recommended.
  • Removing personal items and jewelry prior to climbing is strongly recommended.
  • The Climbing Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please properly store personal items in lockers or cubbies.

Auxiliary Spaces

Exercise Performance Rooms "A", "B", and "X" offer a spacious area to conduct group fitness classes, are available for drop-in and rental use outside of scheduled availability, and are equipped with a vast array of spinning bikes, rowers, stability balls, TRX training systems, mats, and more.

We have lounge areas that serve many purposes, and may be rented out for birthday parties, group gatherings, or individual use.

Pro Shop

Forget something? The Pro Shop can provide you with a variety of convenience items. It’s open anytime the building is in operation. Patrons may purchase Miami apparel, athletic gear, swim gear, Master locks, sport balls (racquetball, tennis and ping pong), and a wide variety of drinks, packaged food, salads, sandwiches, yogurts, supplements and vegetables/fruits.
