The Miami Machine

The Miami University Pilot Paper Machine: RedHawk 2

The pilot paper machine includes all of the equipment needed to conduct the continuous manufacture of paper at a scale small enough to monitor and control various aspects of the process. The facilities include a fourdrinier former with a 12" trim, two double-felted presses and electric dryer cans. The stock preparation equipment includes a Beloit tub beater, storage tanks, blend chests and pumps to deliver the stock to the machine. The pilot facility underwent a major rebuild with upgrade in 2007. In 2012, a state of the art distributed control system (DCS) was installed to control all aspects of the stock preparation and the paper machine processes.
