  • Prior to join the faculty at Miami, Dr. Welter was an assistant professor at Xavier University (2014-2019) and Georgia Southern University (2012-2014). Prior to academia, Dr. Welter worked as an analyst for a major academic medical center.

Honors & Awards


Chris Welter earned his PhD at the Ohio State University in 2012. His training focused primarily on entrepreneurship and business strategy. He currently teaches the capstone course in Management and Supply Chain. His prior teaching includes courses in entrepreneurship, business strategy, management, and international business at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

His research focus primarily on entrepreneurial opportunities and developing theory around how entrepreneur's cognition drives their decision to pursue new ventures. His current research projects investigate the role of psychological capital on the entrepreneur's decision-making processes. He has been published in the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal among others.

Dr. Welter currently serves on the editorial review boards of the Academy of Management Review, the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and the Journal of Business Venturing. He held previous assistant professor appointments at Georgia Southern University and Xavier University.
