Art Van Houten has over 32 years experience with the US Department of Defense in both the military and civilian sectors. He served as an officer in the US Air Force on Active and Reserve duty having retired as a Colonel in 2017. His military career spanned the globe and included assignments as an aircraft maintenance officer, aerospace engineer, logistician, manager, and leader. He held positions supporting aircraft maintenance on the flight line, in the support shops, as well as at the division and higher levels including: Inspector General for Logistics Plans, and support to the US Army while deployed to Afghanistan in 2016. He also served as a civilian Aerospace Engineer in the US government working for the USAF and the Defense Intelligence Agency. After retiring from the government in 2019 he was an aerospace engineer providing engineering support to the USAF through a non-profit company. Currently, he is teaching the Computational Thinking for Business (BUS104) class in the First Year Integrated Core (FYIC) at Miami University.
