H. Cecilia Suhr is a researcher and multi-media artist whose work spans mixed-media paintings/drawings, performance, digital art, video art, sound art, and music, among other media. Her first book, Social Media and Music: The Digital Field of Cultural Productions (2012, Peter Lang Press), explored the impact of social media on musicians and the music industry. The follow-up research proposal from this book won a MacArthur Foundation Digital Media and Learning Research Grant Award, which resulted in the publication of Evaluation and Credentialing in Digital Music Communities (MIT Press, 2014). She also served as an editor and contributing author to Online Evaluation of Creative Arts (Routledge Press, 2014). Besides research, she has exhibited and screened interdisciplinary artworks in New York City, Washington, D.C., California, Ohio, Kentucky, Maryland, Moscow, Russia, London, U.K. Seoul, Korea, Rome and Venice, Italy, and Tokyo, Japan, etc. Working at the intersection between analog and digital technology/interactive media, sound and vision, theory and practice, critique and creation, she is interested in experimenting with a wide spectrum of media to create synergetic and divergent aesthetic expressions and experiences.
