Commuter Center

The Miami University Carruthers Commuter Resource Center, located in 2045 Armstrong Student Center, serves as a resource for students who commute to school from Oxford or the surrounding area. The center is located on the second floor, near the Smucker Wiikiaami Room. The Commuter Center is only open during the fall and spring semesters.

The Commuter Center strives to promote an environment that is welcoming and conducive to community building and academic achievement. In addition to a friendly atmosphere, the center provides a variety of services and resources, including a charging station, lockers, and comfortable seating. It also serves as the meeting space for the student organization Commuters of Miami during the academic year.

The Commuter Center is open to all students from 7am to 5pm, Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters. Only commuters and relocators have access to the space (with Miami ID card) between 5pm and 11pm. Many commuters consider the space to be a "home base" for studying, eating, socializing, charging phones and tablets, and more.

Visit the Commuter Center Policy Page for more information about the center and expectations regarding the use the of the space.

Incoming Commuter Students

Welcome to the Miami University Oxford campus!

Commuter Prep Day

We host a Commuter Prep Day in mid-August each year. We encourage first-year commuter students to attend. During the program, students will:

  • Learn about parking and buses on campus and get your parking pass
  • Tour the Commuter Center
  • Have lunch with incoming and returning commuters
  • Get questions answered

Housing Exemption

Because Miami University maintains a two-year on-campus residency requirement, students who plan to commute must complete the Miami University Residency Requirement Exemption Form, available on the Campus Services Center website under Forms. An affidavit is required for students who are applying for exemption based on commuting from their residence with a parent/guardian, spouse or dependent child/children.
