Senators heard presentations on 1) A revision to the class attendance policy; 2) revisions to the Senate Bylaws on the function and composition of the Undergraduate Research Committee; and 3) A revision to the TCPL policy to raise the cap for the College of Creative Arts. Cheryl Young gave a special report to update senators about MUDEC.

Senate News, August 29, 2022
University Senate met on August 29, 2022 in 111 Harrison Hall. Senate heard presentations from Brent Shock, Vice President for Enrollment and Student Success; Kara Strass, Director of Miami Tribe Relations and Daryl Baldwin, Director of Myaamia Center; Nathan French, Senator on Senate Working Groups for this academic year. We heard one item of new business. Scott Sanders, Associate Clinical Professor in Teaching, Curriculum and Educational Inquiry proposed an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction. Minutes of the University Senate meeting for April 25, 2022, were approved. The following items were received on the Consent Calendar: a) Graduate Council Meeting Minutes 04.05.2022 b) LEC Council Meeting Minutes 05.06.2022 c) Undergraduate Research Committee Annual Report 2021-2022 We concluded the meeting with an update from Provost Mullenix on her 2022-23 goals for Academic Affairs.

Senate News, April 26, 2021
Senators continued discussions regarding proposed composition and function changes for three Senate Committees: Liberal Education Council; Honors Program Advisory Council; and, Academic Policy Committee. Discussion also continued regarding the proposed Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship degree/major. Jannie Kamara, ASG Student Body President, presented the ASG Year in Review. Senator Dawn Fehner led a discussion regarding returning to campus.

Senators engaged in a discussion regarding the Global Miami Plan revisions and voted to accept the new Plan. Dr. Dana Cox and Senator Jen Green continued a discussion about TCPL percentages and converting the ratios to true percentages. Senators heard from three Senate Committees regarding proposed composition and function changes: Liberal Education Council; Honors Program Advisory Council; and, Academic Policy Committee. Discussion will continue on these three proposals on April 26. Senator Todd Stuart presented the proposed Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship degree/major. Discussion will continue on April 26.

Senators heard a final presentation on the proposed Miami Plan from Dr. Shelly Jarrett Bromberg, Director, Office of Liberal Education, and Dr. Leighton Peterson, Interim Associate Director, Office of Liberal Education. Dr. Dana Cox and Senator Jen Green presented a proposed change to how the TCPL caps are referenced and calculated. The proposed change would be to move to a percentage of TCPL of continuing faculty (TCPL and T/TT faculty). Senators accepted the Ad-Hoc Subcommittee reports (Staff and Faculty) for Covid Support.

Senate welcomed and heard from Dr. Jason Lane, Incoming Dean, College of Education, Health & Society. Senate heard a proposed Sense of the Senate resolution from Dr. Zevi Miller, Chair, Faculty Rights and Responsibilities regarding revising Miami’s Statement on Professional Ethics and Responsibilities. Additionally, Dr. Dana Cox and Senator Troy Travis presented Covid Ad-Hoc Committee Reports and lead a discussion that will continue at the April 5, 2021, meeting.
