About MiEBDI

Miami University's Ecological Big Data Initiative (MiEBDI) in the College of Arts and Science facilitates student and faculty access to and analysis of ecological big data from around the world to address critical threats to ecosystems and the valuable services that they provide.

Job Description

Scientific journals and research funding agencies are recognizing the importance of archiving and sharing data, and thus are requiring researchers to publically share and archive their data. Pursuant with this goal, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has funded the Environmental Data Initiative (EDI) for researchers to archive and share their long-term research data, including projects funded by NSF's Division of Environmental Biology. CADS & MiEBDI are hiring a student to assist with this effort.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with MiEBDI to archive 3 decades of data from a multitude of lakes from around the world, collected by Miami University's Global Change Limnology Lab
  • Compile and format associated metadata and data for the EDI's archives
  • Develop a detailed protocol of this process to enable others to easily archive their data in EDI's repository

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working with R, preferably creating and editing xml files
  • Able to work independently
  • Good written communication skills
  • Commitment to work 10 hours/week

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in working with ecological big data
  • Familiarity with EML (Ecological Metadata Language)
