New Thematic Educator Guide: Teaching About Climate Change
In January 2022, Advanced Inquiry Program graduate Sarah Mulhern Gross ’17 published three thematic teaching guides designed to help English/ELA educators bring discussions about climate change into their curriculum.
Teaching About Climate Change: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Teaching About Climate Change: MIDDLE SCHOOL
Teaching About Climate Change: HIGH SCHOOL
While science class is a natural place to address the realities of climate change, English classes can use literature and nonfiction texts as entry points for helping students of all ages start to think about the impacts of climate change and the difference they might be able to make. Each thematic teaching guide includes a selection of grade-level texts alongside essential questions and activities that can be adapted to whole class or small group settings.
As an AIP student, Gross conducted her field studies through Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo.
