The Value of Elephants A Pluralist Approach
In “The Value of Elephants: A Pluralist Approach” Miami University graduate Antoinette van de Water MA ’17, Michelle Henley, Lucy Bates and Rob Slotow examine a number of ways to explain the value of elephants.
She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching (MA) in biology from Miami University through Project Dragonfly‘s Global Field Program. Her international fieldwork with Project Dragonfly included investigating coral reefs, manatees, howler monkeys, jaguars, and other wildlife in Belize; studying ecology and ecotourism in Costa Rica; and exploring sustainable approaches to human wildlife coexistence in Kenya.
In addition to being an MA graduate, van de Water also serves as the director and founder of Bring the Elephant Home, a non-profit organization with projects in Thailand and South Africa working to better the chance of survival for elephants worldwide and to create a world where people and elephants can coexist in harmony. Learn more about Bring the Elephant Home’s research volunteer opportunities in South Africa focusing on the impact of range expansion on elephant well-being.
