Space in the program is limited, so admission is competitive. Acceptance is based on a number of criteria beyond GPA.
Incoming Students
Major
A student intending to major in Games and Simulation should designate “Games and Simulation” as the chosen major when submitting the application for admission to Miami. The student is also required to upload an application video through the Applicant Status Page.
What We're Looking For
We want you to walk us through what you’ve done and how you think! A screenshare showing off your work as you verbally walk us through it via a voiceover track is ideal. Do not show yourself in the video.
- Do you like to code? Show us your process and a project you’re working on.
- Interested in storytelling? Give us a high-level overview of some of your stories.
- Interested in art? Show us your artwork (drawings, sketches, 3D models, paintings, etc.).
- Passionate about player communities, social justice, or the future of games? Take us to school!
- Interested in Game Design? Show us games that you’ve created.
- Experimenting with new and emerging tech? Show us what you’ve made.
- Experimenting with old tech in new ways (like making board games or TTRPGs)? Show us what you’ve made.
We can't wait to see what you're up to, just remember to keep the video under 2 minutes.
What We're Not Looking For
It’s not enough to simply like games. Don’t show us two minutes of you playing Fortnite! If you haven’t made anything yet, you can send us two minutes of you playing your favorite game, but you have to include in your voiceover commentary a very clear critique of the game and what you WOULD make based on those insights.
Minor
A minor is declared only after a student is admitted to the University and enrolls for classes.
Current Students
- A student applying to the Games + Simulation major or minor must submit a video via Google Form.
- A student applying to Miami University intending to major in Games + Simulation should designate Games + Simulation as the major in their University application materials. A minor is declared only after a student is admitted to the University and enrolls for classes.
- A current Miami student may apply to the major or minor in Games + Simulation if they hold a GPA of 3.0 or better. (There is no GPA requirement for a student in their first semester since no GPA has been established.)
