Candace Taylor and Daniela Inclezan Recognized for Excellence in Service and Inclusive Excellence

The College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) is proud to announce the recipients of two prestigious awards: Candace Taylor, honored with the Excellence in Service Award, and Daniela Inclezan, Ph.D. who received the Inclusive Excellence Award.

Candace Taylor has been a dedicated member of the CEC community for over ten years, providing invaluable support to faculty, staff, and students. Known for her warmth, patience, and exceptional organizational skills, Candace serves as a trusted assistant to Dean Sukumaran. Her tireless commitment to the college’s mission, willingness to go above and beyond, and ability to build strong relationships through collaboration and respect make her an indispensable part of the team. Candace's dedication is evident in her frequent work during evenings and weekends, ensuring the success of CEC initiatives and events.

"Candace is a wealth of knowledge about all things CEC," wrote a colleague in Candace's nomination letter. “[She] always responds with kindness and patience even when I know she has a variety of assignments she is working through.” As the go-to person for CEC faculty and staff, this award recognizes her dedication and expertise.

Daniela Inclezan, Ph.D., Associate Professor and the Maryloo Spooner Schallek Endowed Professor, has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to fostering inclusivity within CEC. Associate Professor Inclezan has led numerous initiatives integrating inclusive excellence into the computer science curriculum. As a faculty advisor to Girls Who Code and a leader in recruitment efforts to broaden the representation of women and underrepresented minorities in engineering, Inclezan empowers students to embrace equity and social responsibility. Her work on revising the CSE Programming Sequence and the development of CEC 222—Socio-Environmental Responsibility in Engineering and Computing—are just a few examples of her commitment to creating a more inclusive environment for students.

"The CEC Inclusive Excellence Award Committee is thrilled to name Dr. Inclezan as the recipient of the 2024 CEC Inclusive Excellence Award," said the Award Selection Committee. "Dr. Inclezan's multifaceted approach to inclusivity, dedication to empirical research in education, and active community involvement position her as an exemplary recipient of the award, contributing significantly to the diversity and inclusiveness of Miami University’s engineering and computing programs."

Both Candace Taylor and Daniela Inclezan exemplify the values of excellence and inclusivity that are central to the College of Engineering and Computing's mission. Their dedication to making a difference in the CEC community is truly appreciated.
