Miami University Launches CREATE Center to Transform Educator Preparation
Miami University has launched the CREATE Center (Center for Recruitment, Engagement, and Advancement of Transformative Educators), a new cross-college initiative designed to strengthen teacher preparation and advance equity-centered, community-engaged education. Led by the College of Education, Health, and Society (EHS), CREATE brings together faculty and programs from the College of Arts and Science (CAS) and the College of Creative Arts (CCA) to build a collaborative hub for innovation in educator development.
The CREATE Center unites several of Miami’s nationally recognized teacher education initiatives, including TEACh Cincinnati, Teacher Academies, the Urban Cohort, the Ohio Writing Project, and music and art education programs. By coordinating efforts across colleges, CREATE will serve as an infrastructure for collaboration, shared resources, and external funding opportunities that expand Miami’s impact in schools and communities.
The center will also foster cross-disciplinary project teams that connect faculty expertise across colleges - from critical pedagogy and arts integration to practice-based teacher education and community partnerships. By leveraging these collaborations, CREATE aims to prepare future teachers not only with strong content knowledge but also with the civic, cultural, and leadership skills needed to meet today’s educational challenges.
The launch of the CREATE Center underscores Miami’s commitment to advancing equity, building authentic partnerships with schools and communities, and preparing educators to lead transformational change.
