Support ILR
ILR needs your help!
As state support for universities progressively declined and necessitated extensive institution-wide belt-tightening, ILR became self-supporting as of July 1, 2011. By virtue of being part of Miami University’s Global Initiatives, ILR continues to receive services (e.g. office space, classroom space, registration, computers, etc.), but we’re responsible for operating expenses and paying salary and benefits for the staff support we receive.
To help ensure ILR’s future, please consider supporting ILR in the following ways:
- by volunteering your time
- with your tax-deductible gift
- by enrolling in the Kroger Community Rewards Program
- through planned giving
Your support ensures that ILR will continue to serve a much-valued need in the community. Please click on the tabs below for additional information. Thank you for your interest in supporting ILR.
Supporting ILR with your tax-deductible gift
ILR became self-supporting as of 2011. We are funded by our membership fees and our generous donors. These donations enable us to further our mission, support scholarships, purchase equipment, and ensure a sound future for ILR. We sincerely appreciate your tax-deductible donation. To donate by mail, please download, print, complete, and mail this ILR Donation Form to the address listed on the form. Thank you!
Kroger Community Rewards Program—Support ILR as you shop!
It's easy to help ILR through the Kroger Community Rewards program, a no-cost, no-sell fundraiser. Once registered, with just a swipe of your regular Kroger Plus card, Kroger will donate a percentage (up to 4%) of your total purchases to ILR. With only minimal effort on your part (a few minutes to register your card's affiliation to ILR) you can help us offset our expenses. .
It's easy...just shop, swipe your card, and earn for ILR!
April is re-enrollment month for the Kroger Community Rewards program. Those using their Kroger Plus card to support ILR will need to re-enroll each year during the month of April to ensure that ILR remains as your charitable organization designation. Re-enrollment takes just a minute by following the steps below.
To re-enroll and/or designate ILR for your charitable designation
- Visit the Kroger website at www.krogercommunityrewards.com.
- Sign in using your email address and Kroger password. If you have forgotten your password, just click on "forgot password" and a link will be sent to your email to change your password.
- Click on the Enroll Now button next to Cincinnati, OH.
- Enter ILR's five digit NPO number which is BT008, or the first three letters of the organization's name, (Mia) Miami University Institute for Learning in Retirement.
- Click on the circle to the left of ILR's name.
- Save changes
To verify you are enrolled correctly, you will see ILR's name on the bottom of your receipt. New enrollees should allow 7-10 days for this to take effect.
Not yet enrolled? To enroll for the first time, please follow these quick and simple steps:
- Have your Kroger Plus card handy. If you use your phone number at the cash register, you can use it instead of the card here too.
- Go to Kroger Community Rewards online at www.krogercommunityrewards.com.
- Click on the red Create An Account box in the upper right side of the screen.
- Sign up for a Kroger Community Rewards Account by entering your email address, creating a password, entering your zip code, selecting your store, entering your Kroger Plus number, and agreeing to the terms and conditions.
Remember, your purchases will not count toward ILR until you've registered your card.
For those of you who choose to support multiple organizations, you have two options:
- Change your Community Rewards organization periodically (maybe every six months). Remember that it takes 7-10 days for the changes to be updated.
- Or, obtain a second Kroger Plus Card (at any Kroger customer service desk) for your address. Multiple shoppers within the same household wishing to support different organizations at the same time will need separate Kroger Plus Cards with separate numbers registered with separate email addresses.
Thanks so much for helping ILR!
Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution
Did you know that you can make a direct distribution from your IRA to Miami University in support of the Institute for Learning in Retirement? This option—often called the IRA Rollover—or Qualified Charitable Distribution—allows you to make a gift that will count towards your annual required minimum distribution (RMD) without reporting the distribution as taxable income.
Here is what you need to know:
- You must be 70½ or older at the time of the distribution.
- The transfer may be of any amount, up to a yearly maximum of $100,000.00 per individual.
- Your IRA administrator must make the distribution directly to the eligible charitable organization, in this case Miami University.
- You may receive no benefits in exchange for the gift, i.e. donor based seating, complimentary tickets to paid events, et cetera.
- While no charitable tax deduction may be received, you do not report the distribution as income and you benefit ILR at Miami.
- You may contact your IRA plan administrator and arrange to have them send a check to the Office of Gift Planning at 725 E. Chestnut Street Oxford, OH 45056, to the attention of Mary Kay Whiston. Please mention ILR as the gift beneficiary.
For more information on this and other charitable giving strategies, please contact the Office of Gift Planning at Miami University by phone at 513-529-1286 or e-mail giftplanning@MiamiOH.edu. Jayne Whitehead, Matt Kuhn, and Michael Shoffner from our Gift Planning team will be happy to provide the details your IRA plan administrator will need in order to complete your gift to ILR.
