Orientation and Transition Services

ISSS welcomes international students to campus with a comprehensive orientation program that consists of information sessions, activities and small group discussions designed to ensure that students’ academic and personal needs are met and that immigration and health requirements are fulfilled.

Immigration Advising and Reporting

In addition to processing visa documents and updating government records, ISSS advisors assist students and scholars with maintaining legal status in the U.S. and obtaining benefits such as work authorization.

Academic Success

ISSS proactively monitors the academic success of international students and reaches out to those students experiencing academic difficulty to provide information on university policies, procedures, and campus resources.

Our International Community

As required by federal regulations, ISSS primarily supports students who are citizens of a foreign country and studying in the U.S. on a non-immigrant visa. This includes students at all academic levels and in a variety of programs, as well as family who are with them in the U.S. and alumni approved for U.S. work authorization. ISSS also supports scholars from abroad who come to the U.S. to teach or pursue research on a J-1 visa. The greater Miami international community includes dual citizens; immigrants; first generation U.S. students; international faculty, staff and their families; and others from outside the U.S.
