A Campus Climate Concern is defined as any action or incident, either intentional or unintentional, that may stereotype, exclude, or harm anyone in our community. Concerns may stem from fear, misunderstanding, hatred, or bias, and may affect one’s ability to learn and thrive on campus. To be a concern the act or perceived act does not necessarily have to be a crime on local, state or federal level, nor does it have to violate a university policy.
This includes incidents that occur on campus or within an area that impacts the campus community, and are directed at a member or a group within the Miami University community due to that individual’s or group’s actual or perceived characteristics or statuses, which can include: age, race, ethnicity, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, immigration or citizenship status, marital status, national origin, veteran status, religion and/or religious practice, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, weight, political affiliation, ideology, viewpoint, medical condition, mental health, or any combination of these or similar factors.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of common forms of bias. If you have suggestions for additions to this list of examples, please email them to vpdiversity@MiamiOH.edu.
