Tech Support Lounge now offers loaner program for students
The Tech Support Lounge, located in the Atrium section of the Armstrong Student Center, is nearly a year old. It continues to work closely with all of the academic areas across the University to ensure that Miami faculty, staff, and students have access to computer specs that indicate what machines are best suited for their degree programs or working needs. You can learn more about these recommendations on their website, which includes a page of computer recommendations for students, broken down by college and program.
The Lounge is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Walk-up services continue to include:
- Hands-on diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Hardware repair recommendations
New Services
New this year, Miami is partnering with iResQ, a computer repair and support company, to provide additional services to the Tech Support Lounge catalog. These include:
- A subscription loaner program
- Non-subscription loaners
- Out-of-warranty computer repairs
Subscription Loaner Program
Students can sign up for the loaner program between now and September 12 for $35. This covers any loaner needs for the entire academic year. As part of the program, students:
- Are eligible for a loaner device for both warranty and out-of-warranty repairs
- Will go ZERO days without a computer
- Can receive a same-day loaner from the Tech Support Lounge
You can register for the program through the iResQ portal.
Non-subscription Loaners
If students decide not to subscribe to the loaner program prior to September 12, they can still register for a loaner, if a needed repair requires it, through a short-term rental. However, each short-term rental will cost $70 per incident and is limited to 30 days. Short-term rentals are also subject to availability. More information is available from the iResQ portal.
Additional Information
We realize that working technology is essential to student success and that this suite of services will continue to prioritize that success. The underlying need to ensure a student has a working computer when they need it continues to be a priority. For more information about the Technology Support Lounge, visit MiamiOH.edu/TechLounge.
Even with this walk-up computer support, IT Help should still be considered Miami’s primary support service. It is available 24x7 via phone at 513-529-7900, chat at MiamiOH.edu/ITChat, and of course, the Knowledge Base at MiamiOH.edu/knowIT.
