Room Selection FAQs
Room Selection FAQs
How do I start the room selection process?
Login to the Online Housing System and click the link for "Register for Housing." If you are a current second year or older student and cannot see the Register for Housing link, please let us know so that we can help!
What halls are available in the general room selection process?
If availability permits, these halls are included in the general room selection process: Bishop, Dennison, Dorsey, Emerson, Etheridge, Flower, Hahne, Hepburn, Heritage Commons, Maplestreet, Marcum, McFarland, Ogden, Stanton, Symmes, Tappan, and Withrow.
How do I request a roommate?
You must first create a roommate group, which can be with one or more roommates. You'll do this using our online housing system prior to selecting a room. You can search for potential roommates based on roommate profiles, or you can search for specific students using their UniqueID. In order to search for a roommate, they must also have initiated a housing application online. Once you have confirmed your roommate group, you can then select a room and assign all roommates at the same time! Whoever enters the room selection process first is able to assign all roommates to the room.
If you are selecting an apartment at Heritage Commons and have roommates, be sure to add each of the bedrooms to your room selection cart so that you can assign your roommates!
Can I invite a current off-campus student to be my roommate?
Yes, as long as that student has also initiated a housing application online.
What do I do if I have a medical need for special housing accommodations?
We work in collaboration with The Miller Center for Student Disability Services to provide reasonable accommodations in the residence hall setting. If you feel that a disability-related housing accommodation is needed, please contact The Miller Center at 513-529-1541 or email SDS@MiamiOH.edu. You may also visit their website at www.MiamiOH.edu/SDS for more information.
How long do I have to cancel my housing contract?
First- and second-year students are required to live on campus, therefore there is no cancellation period. For rising third and fourth year students, you will have a 7-day cancellation period from the day you sign your contract online. After 7 days, the contract becomes legally binding. Contact the Campus Services Center if you have questions about this.
I am relocating to Oxford from a regional campus. When can I select a room?
Relocation students should contact our office to ask about on-campus housing.
When can fall semester second-year study abroad students select a room for spring semester?
These students may select a room during the appropriate time slot, based upon how many semesters they have lived on campus.
Can graduate students live on campus?
Yes! Please contact the Campus Services Center so that we can ensure you have access to our Online Housing System.
How do I learn more about Gender-Inclusive housing options?
Students at Miami University are assigned roommates of the same legal sex (male students with male students and female students with female students). However, the University recognizes that assignments based on this gender binary may not be the best option for all students. In cooperation with the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion, LGBTQ+ Initiatives, and the Campus Services Center, the Office of Residence Life offers gender inclusive housing. Gender inclusive housing provides room assignment options that better affirms a student’s gender identity. For more information, visit our Gender-Inclusive Housing Website.
What if there are no rooms to choose when I login?
If you can't select a specific room, you should select "Assignment Pending." This (along with completing the contract) guarantees a space. Each spring and summer, we learn of students not returning to University housing, which enables us to open rooms that were previously unavailable. Students in Assignment Pending can immediately enter their hall preferences. As spaces become available, we use preferences to assign students to a room. Each year we are able to assign everyone by mid-summer!
